Good to know when buying property in Spain

NIE Number

To buy property in Spain, you'll need an NIE number (Spanish identification number for foreigners). Don't worry — this is a normal part of the process and many buyers arrange it quickly.

Additional purchase costs

When buying in Spain, it's good to budget for additional costs such as taxes, legal fees and notary fees. As a general guide, buyers often add around 10–15% on top of the property price.

The buying process

Buying property in Spain is usually a straightforward process. Once you find the right property, there are normally a few simple steps including reservation, contracts and final signing.

Notary & legal support

The final purchase is completed through a notary, who officially registers the transaction. Many international buyers also choose to work with an independent lawyer for extra peace of mind.

Don't worry — we'll connect you with experienced local agents who can guide you through the process.
